Overview

The Foundations in Nephrology Nursing program prepares Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with the entry-level competencies required to work in a variety of kidney care environments. Learners will gain the knowledge, specialized skills, and clinical judgement required to provide safe, ethical, and effective kidney care.

This program uses content from Michener Institute’s Foundations in Nephrology Nursing course and integrates clinical experience, with emphasis on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation. At the completion of the program, nurses will be ready to enter practice as key members of the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Active-practicing RN or LPN license with Nova Scotia College of Nursing
  • Employment in a Nova Scotia Health nursing unit that provides kidney care
  • Approval from a kidney care unit manager to confirm a clinical seat and sponsorship for the program is required
