Family Practice Nursing Education Program

Kelly Silver, BScN, RN

Kelly is a dedicated and accomplished nurse whose journey in health care began with her graduation from the VGH School of Nursing in 1995. She continued her pursuit of knowledge at Dalhousie University, earning a BScN in 2001. Kelly's commitment to excellence in patient care led her to obtain a certificate in Family Practice Nursing in 2010. Over the years, she gained extensive experience in various nursing specialties, including Cardiac IMCU, Labour and Delivery, Emergency Medicine, and Primary Care. It was in Primary Health Care that Kelly discovered her true passion, allowing her to focus on health promotion and illness prevention.

In 2020, Kelly embraced a new role as a Clinical Nurse Educator with the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team, providing valuable support to Primary Health Care teams in the Northern Zone of Nova Scotia. Her dedication extended to working as a Nurse Educator for the Research, Innovation, and Discovery Team, where she supported the implementation of new health care initiatives such as the Primary Care Mobile Clinics and the Nova Scotia Health Provincial Tick Services. Kelly has a deep commitment to immunization, and she aspires to channel her passion by working with UNICEF to vaccinate abroad during her retirement. Kelly's career is a testament to her unwavering dedication to health care and her desire to make a positive impact on a global scale. She served as president of the Family Practice Nurses Association of Nova Scotia from 2022 to 2024.

Tanya Magee, BN, RN

As faculty in our Family Practice Nursing Education Program, Tanya shares her passion for the role of the registered nurse in primary care, and her commitment to excellence in practice.

A graduate of Dalhousie University, Tanya has extensive experience in a variety of clinical settings including multiple family practice settings. She is a strong advocate for nursing education, collaborative practice, patients, and their families.

When not focusing on her professional responsibilities, Tanya likes spending time with her family, gardening, and reading.

Lisa Creed, RN, BScN, CCNP, PONP

Lisa graduated from StFX University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and spent the first years of her career in the United States. In 2006, Lisa moved back to Nova Scotia, becoming a staff nurse at the Aberdeen. In 2007 and 2012, Lisa received certificates from the Critical Care and Peri-operative Programs at the Learning Institute (RNPDC at the time). In 2022, Lisa completed the Family Practice Nursing Education Program at the Learning Institute. She transitioned to the Interprofessional Practice and Learning Portfolio in February of 2023, becoming a Clinical Nurse Educator supporting staff in many areas within the hospital. Most recently, Lisa has joined the Learning Institute as Faculty for the Family Practice Nursing Education Program.

Lisa’s love of teaching and passion for quality patient care is evident in the many areas of nursing in which she has worked. Lisa enjoys supporting learners who will positively impact future patient care and strengthen our health care system.
